| On March 14th, 1936, Mt. Zion Baptist Church was organized and the Articles of Faith and Rules of Decorum were adopted by the first 11 members. These Charter Members were: Mr. & Mrs. A. B. Gann, Mr. & Mrs. Cleat Gann, Mr. R. D. Williams, Mr. & Mrs. E. O. Ritch, Mr. & Mrs. G. W. Ritch, Mrs. Emmie Holcomb, and Mrs. Lillie May Holley.
The first building was constructed on land donated by William Lee and Samantha Williams. Timers was donated by people in the community with volunteer labor by members and other interested in seeing a church built in this community.
The first pastor was W. L. Glasscock and the first deacons were A. B. Gann, R. D. Williams, G. W. Ritch, and E. O. Ritch. G. W. and E. O. Ritch were ordained deacons at the first meeting. The church voted to meet on the second Sunday of each month and the Saturday night before.
On June 13, 1936, the first Sunday School was organized with the following officers and teachers. Superintendent - R. D. Williams; Secretary - Mrs. Cleete Gann; Adult Teacher - E. O. Ritch; and Primary Teacher - Mrs. Lillie Williams.
In 1947 the church was wires for electricity at a cost of $31.00. 1953 brought some repairing and rebuilding of the church and in that same year the first piano was purchased for $90.00. The church also had new benches made for a total cost of $125.75 materials and labor included.
In 1969 new Sunday school rooms and bathrooms were added. Then in 1972 the church added central heating and cooling. In 1972 the church installed carpet followed by a well the was drilled shortly after in 1974. Previous to this the church had water from a spring from across the road.
In 1983-84 extensive repairs were made to the church and in 1987 the old building was completely renovated by adding a new roof, nursery, and bathrooms. Also the front of the building was completely reworked with a spacious foyer, sidewalks, ramp, and steeple.
In 1997, the Long Range Planning Committee recommended that the church proceed with plans for a completely new building. The end result of this planning is the building that we are now in that is pictured on the front page of this website. This building was dedicated to God on November 4, 2001. It was God who has brought us to the point that we are today and promises to lead us ever onward and upward. To Him be all the glory forever. Amen.
